Lovely treat to eat here on a sunny day. Food was fresh and tasty and the staff were so lovely and attentive. Plenty of seating outside and even more inside. Beautiful building that you can look around. Nice souvenir shop with very reasonable prices. A nice walk to be had under the bridge, along the river bank and up onto the battlements. Definitely worth a visit.

We wanted to have lunch before reaching the Monastic Site of Clonmacnoise so we stopped at the River Café which was well signaled on the road. My wife ordered the Quiche Lorraine and I ordered the Cod and Chips. We shared a Pavlova for dessert. All dishes were truly excellent! Highly recommended.

Lovely wee quiet cafe within the fortress/ castle / big wall thingmy. Delicious wee goujon wrap I had, wi crisps and a dressed salad accompanied wi a mug of soup. The soup was hearty, warm and flavourful. The goujons crispy and lathered wi sauce and cheese. Cracking all round, very satisfying after a long day. Coffee washed it all down for a very pleasant experience. Highly recommend for a quiet lunch! Cheers
